In the coming months, St John’s and community members will be supporting the
resettlement of an Afghan family of three forced to flee that country and currently
residing in Pakistan. Facilitated by the Diocese of Niagara, this sponsorship is being
undertaken by Task Force NYX (TFN), a charitable organization that supports at-risk
Afghan women’s rights protesters and activists.
St John’s will act as the “constituent group” meaning that we will lead on settlement
supports, including finding and furnishing a place to live, connecting to services, and
welcoming them to Hamilton. Most of the funds have been raised to sponsor this family
of three, though they will likely need donations to furnish their new home.
The family is already connected locally to the co-founder of Task Force NYX and
several other newly-arrived Afghan families.
How you can help:
1. Please keep this family in your prayers.
2. Keep your ears open for short-term and even longer-term accommodation for this
family (man, woman, young son).
Stay tuned for more information to be posted about the family and when they will be
arriving, likely very early in 2024. For further information, please contact Barbara Ruttan
or Sarah Wayland.
Office hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm
