On Palm Sunday we will hear the story of crowds covering Jesus' path with palms and their own clothing, demonstrating their faith, hope, and love. Like one of the children in that crowd, St John's has been asked by one of its youngest members to help some of our neighbours who are in urgent need of clothing. This Palm Sunday, please consider bringing new and gently used articles of clothing - all ages, sizes, and sorts - to church for donation to those evacuated from Kashechewan.
The people of the Kashechewan, approximately 2,300 people, were evacuated from their homes near James Bay over two months ago due to a failed water treatment facility. At this time, it is not known how long the evacuation will continue. Nearly half of the community has been evacuated to the Niagara Falls region where local churches, including St John's, Stamford, are working to support them. The evacuees had to leave most of their possessions behind. There is a rapidly-growing need for supplies, especially clothing.
If you have clothing to donate, please bring it to church on Palm Sunday (29 March 2026).
