Prayer: Does it Make any Difference? by Philip Yancey

I have read a number of books about prayer over the years, but this one is by far the best. Perhaps that is because Yancey is neither a priest nor a mystic nor a professional theologian. He is just an ordinary, thoughtful, insightful Christian—not to mention a very engaging writer! I appreciate how he speaks honestly and in everyday language about the Bible’s teaching on prayer, and the practical problems we all encounter in following that teaching. I kept thinking, “Yes, that’s exactly how I feel!” or “That is so helpful!” Scattered through the book are extracts from letters Yancey was sent, where people describe their own blessings and difficulties in prayer. These add a lot to the strength of the book. This book is worth reading and rereading! Strongly recommended. -- John Bowen
