June 20 is recognized as World Refugee Day. Archbishop Shane Parker invites dioceses and parishes across Canada to observe a Refugee Sunday, drawing attention to the growing global refugee crisis and the Church's longstanding ministry of welcoming newcomers. "Our church will always strive to welcome the stranger," writes the Primate in his invitation to the House of Bishops. Resources for parishes wishing to observe Refugee Sunday are available through Alongside Hope.

In Niagara, this ministry continues through our refugee sponsorship program, supported by parishes and community groups across the diocese. As Archdeacon Bill Mous writes in the June Niagara Anglican, World Refugee Day is "a day that invites our remembrance of, reflection on, and response to the ongoing refugee crisis."

To mark the occasion, join us at Christ's Church Cathedral on June 24 for We're Better Together: A Conversation about Refugee Rights in Canada, a panel discussion alongside the launch of Citizens for Public Justice's new book, A Renewed Canadian Welcome: Eleven Visions from Migrants and Advocates. The panel will be exploring the role of faith in amplifying refugee voices. Speakers include Archdeacon Bill Mous, Brenna Sobanski, and members of Rainbow Kings and Queens Hamilton. Register today.
