On Palm Sunday, dozens of bags of clothing were brought to the church. These will be passed on to the people of the Kashechewan First Nation who have been living in Niagara Falls region and are in urgent need of clothing.
The people of the Kashechewan, approximately 2,300 people, were evacuated from their homes near James Bay over two months ago due to a failed water treatment facility. At this time, there is no date for their return, according to the community's executive director. Nearly half of the community has been evacuated to the Niagara Falls region where local churches, including St John's, Stamford, are working to support them. The evacuees had to leave most of their possessions behind.
