On Sunday, May 25, 2025, the choir of St John the Evangelist Anglican Church (The Rock on Locke) Hamilton, with orchestra, under the direction of Paul Grimwood, will perform the Solemn Vespers (Vesperae Solennes de Confessore, KV339) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Mozart’s Vespers consist of settings of five Psalms and a Magnificat, scored for soloists, chorus, and orchestra, and were written for the Salzburg Cathedral in 1779. The most familiar movement is the tender soprano solo Laudate Dominum.

The Vespers will be presented as a service may have been sung at the time, with plainsong propers and short orchestral selections as well. The Rector of St John’s, The Rev. Andrew Rampton, will preside.

Soloists for the Mozart Vespers will be Beverly Bronté-Tinkew, soprano; Mari van Pelt, alto; Timothy Lo, tenor and Lydell Andrée Wiebe, baritone. A small orchestra of seven players will be conducted by Paul Grimwood.

The service takes place at St John the Evangelist Anglican Church, 320 Charlton Avenue West, Hamilton, at Locke Street, on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. There is no charge for admission, but a free-will offering will be received.
