Barbara Ruttan, the St. John's rep for Micah House, met with Stephanie, the Executive Director, who gave her a tour of the house and a brief orientation to the services provided.

There are three staff members, one of who lives at Micah House and stays overnight. Most of the current residents are Spanish speaking with little or no English. There is also a family from Chad. Families and individuals stay at Micah House for about 3 months. During this time, Micah House provides housing, basic needs and settlement support. Micah House helps to connect residents to community resources and supports the families in the refugee claim process, assisting families as they find safety in Canada.

There are many opportunities for people to volunteer.
·      To bring dinners and other food.
·      To take Micah House residents to and from appointments (such as medical appointments or foodbank)
·      To take families out for a walk to the park or some local amusement.
·      To help with learning English language.
·      To help with crafts and games.

The needs of Micah House change often. Currently, some items they are looking for:
 A large white board to hang up on wall, for English classes
 An office chair
 Storage for children’s toys
 2 short bookshelves
 Cleaning supplies (garbage bags (75L), green bin bags (10L), pinesol cleaning solution)
 Gift cards (no frills, shoppers drug mart, esso gas)
